SCRIBAL EVANGELIST As the only living certified Soferet (סופרת - female Jewish ritual scribe) & the first woman to practice sofrut (creation of sacred Hebrew texts) in over 200 years, I feel an obligation to blog about my experiences of The Work. I am also currently researching the foundation of a lost tradtion of women practicing this holy craft. For more on the services I provide, please see; Sofrut Nation. I am now available to engage with students, male or female, wishing to enter into the preliminary stage of learning sofrut. You are welcome to join me on this path. Here's a fascinating article about restoring a Sefer Torah, by a non-Jewish archivist, complete with colourful eye-candy! How can you resist?!!?

Update: read Alisha's statement about this problem of neither Jews taking responsibility for this Sefer Torah, nor non-Jews being allowed to use their skills to preserve it with kavod

Isn't he fascinating? I love the bit where he describes how he'll restore a Torah only if there's absolutely no-one in the community who'll let him teach them how to do it. So principled!

Yeah, I really enjoy this article & his POV. I'm also impressed with his ethics like you are :)
I wonder why it's so hard for him to find someone willing to learn from him? I would LOVE to!
