SCRIBAL EVANGELIST As the only living certified Soferet (סופרת - female Jewish ritual scribe) & the first woman to practice sofrut (creation of sacred Hebrew texts) in over 200 years, I feel an obligation to blog about my experiences of The Work. I am also currently researching the foundation of a lost tradtion of women practicing this holy craft. For more on the services I provide, please see Soferet.com; Sofrut Nation. I am now available to engage with students, male or female, wishing to enter into the preliminary stage of learning sofrut. You are welcome to join me on this path. ON RESTORING SACRED OBJECTS

בס"ד

Here's a fascinating article about restoring a Sefer Torah, by a non-Jewish archivist, complete with colourful eye-candy! How can you resist?!!?

Update: read Alisha's statement about this problem of neither Jews taking responsibility for this Sefer Torah, nor non-Jews being allowed to use their skills to preserve it with kavod

Isn't he fascinating? I love the bit where he describes how he'll restore a Torah only if there's absolutely no-one in the community who'll let him teach them how to do it. So principled!

Yeah, I really enjoy this article & his POV. I'm also impressed with his ethics like you are :)
I wonder why it's so hard for him to find someone willing to learn from him? I would LOVE to!
